Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases, or enhance facial contours.

Typically clients chose to do dermal fillers to plump thin lips, enhance shallow contours and soften facial creases and wrinkles. Dermal fillers can be very helpful in those with early signs of aging.

Most fillers are made from Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance that is already found in your skin. It helps keep skin plump and hydrated. 

Dermal fillers are FDA approved. Most side effects associated with dermal fillers occur shortly after injection and most go away in less than two weeks. We recommend that you do not have filler injections immediately before a big event, but rather give yourself two weeks beforehand to ensure you have the best results. The results are temporary, lasting 6 to 12 months or longer before the body gradually and naturally absorbs the particles.

The results of a dermal filler can be seen immediately. The procedure takes approx. 30 minutes. Topical anesthetic is applied before injections. Most HA fillers are infused with lidocaine to help minimize discomfort during and after treatment. The vast majority of patients report little to no discomfort. 

Immediately after the treatment, the treated area can be slightly swollen and red. Some patients may also experience bruising around the injection site. This is a normal result of the injection, and it generally goes away in 72 hours. We provide all patients with ice which helps alleviate bruising and swelling. We also recommend patients avoid, if medically appropriate, blood thinner, like Ibuprofen or Aspirin, as these can increase the risk of bruising.
